Under this scheme, ULaaDS will explore and assess the integration of on-demand high-speed delivery of small goods with shared passenger transport, using the spare capacity of transport vehicles. 

The following modalities are being considered:

  • Electric vans operating on demand or as a regular taxi service in the city offering pooling for passengers and small cargo (e.g. from local businesses).
  • Semiautonomous electric shuttles operating on fixed routes across the city as part of the public transport network.
  • Public transport modes (buses, minivans for special purposes) connecting city centre and urban areas (e.g. ratio of 10-12 km).

As a result, ULaaDS aims to extend shared mobility and MaaS (Mobility as a Service) functionalities and offer a dynamic solution that increases the level of service provided to businesses and private recipients in peri-/urban areas (city centre, residential areas).

Increased network efficiency as a result of higher load factors, increasing synergies with other spatial developments and limiting environmental emissions
More flexible route planning and service availability
Keep people transportation and freight transportation at socially acceptable levels in an economically viable way (e.g. in peri urban areas with lower transit availability)
